RRR CompRoad Rat Records, an indie label based out of PA have just released their first compilation of Punk, Metal, and Rock artists from all over the map. Pleasantly enough my former band, NOX CULT made the cut and is featured on the 22-track Earth shaker. And, it is an absolute honor. I wanted to make sure to give this release an extra push as it is full of awesome independent artists busting their butts to be heard.  AND, Road Rat Records is making this very easy for you. They are offering the comp as a free DL right on their BandCamp page. (Link Below) So, get on it, IT. IS. FREE. Be sure to share it with a friend too.

Canadian band, THE SMILE CASE has sent M-S-G a brand new single to debut from their forthcoming album, Bipolar Bear Wildlife Park on Blacktop Records. A great description straight from the horses mouth is below:

“We are releasing a new album called ‘Bipolar Bear Wildlife Park’ on
March 6th which is more than likely one of the most painful ‘love’ records ever written. The band is an acquired taste and for fans of Elvis
Depressedly, American Pleasure Club & Craig Finn. This song and the new
album is an anxiety fueled rollercoaster that sounds better with a pair of headphones and 5mg of Diazepam.”

So, how could you NOT want to check that out? Be brave, here ya go:

Listener beware, you’re in for some intoxicating sensory overload courtesy of, Black Sugar Transmission. BST head-hancho Mr. Andee Blacksugar is at it again with new record, Wandering Into the Bullseye and it is everything you want in a musical meal. It’s got a ballsy dose of a cappella (“Like Glass”), a touch or two of nightclub danger (“Rescue Sirens”) it’s even got some 1980’s style snuff (“Padlock’s On The Cage”) and oh so much more. Look, it’s 2020 and we are overloaded (and overburdened) with computer and celebrity, we’ve digitized our brains to coma. Those of us surviving this chaos so ache for a troubadour like Blacksugar. Intelligent, witty and sharp-tongued. Andee certainly uses all his beta brain waves and frantic little fingers to the nth degree, presenting his sonic offerings as true artistic statements rather than just songs. This guy really wants to make it all matter. And, not to mention, this album is one part of a trilogy. Certainly prolific and poignant, this release sees Blacksugar isolating himself completely to perform it entirely on his own. This is music in a category all it’s own, from an unknown time and place. If you get it, then you GET IT. And if not, we don’t need ya. It’s always a pleasure to review a BST record, certainly one of MUSIC-SURVIVAL-GUIDE’s faves.

So, here’s your new soundtrack for a new year. Let’s dance, let’s break some shit. Let’s roll around in glitter and solicit sex from circus freaks while high on pixie sticks, and don’t forget…turn it up! Wandering Into the Bullseye will see the light in February.

Growth EP

VA based grunge darlings Sadartha return with new EP, Growth. Although not reinventing the wheel here, the band rather expands on their sound from awesome previous release Eden. With this new installment they certainly play to their strengths. Singer Johnny Noxious continues to sharpen his knifelike vocals while as a unit they remain as chilling, noisy, and loud as ever.

On Growth, Sadartha play in some pretty dark territory, but, center track “Eclipsing Binaries”, sonically lightens the load. Almost makes you wish the boys touched on that side more.

Ultimately, Sadartha does not disappoint. I would however, like to see them step out of their comfort zone on a future release. The band keeps getting better and I think with a bit more confidence they’ll be able to reach that new ground. And I would imagine they are not far off from such an achievement.

Key tracks: “Aconitum” & “Just Skin”

Kicking Sunrise - "Underneath"

Right Coast Music recording artists Kicking Sunrise are scheduled to release a new single this Friday, August 23rd entitled “Underneath” thru multiple streaming and downloadable platforms. And the advance listening I have heard is one of a song catchy and very radio ready.

The band has been together since 2013 and garnered some attention after posting a cover of Justin Timberlake’s song “Suit and Tie” to YouTube. Followed by debut single, “Here’s to the Sunrise” in 2015 which was then picked up for CBS3 Philly as their theme song.

Kicking Sunrise has also shared the stage with such big acts as, O-Town, Aaron Carter, Ryan Cabrera and many more. The band currently has a handful of shows coming up which you can find at their website below along with more information.

Thanks to Jessica Andrews at Right Coast Music for reaching out and putting this on my radar. Good luck with the single!

Domo Music Group will release Music For Sleep this Friday February 8th, 2019.

Music For Sleep cover“Chronic sleep problems can be physically draining, and turn what should be hours of blissful escape into anxiety-ridden nightly recurrences.  Set aside the daily grind and unwind with music designed specifically to promote soothing dream states, and provide more rejuvenation in the morning.  Not to mention the proven benefits of lower heart rate and lower blood pressure, reduced insomnia, and increased energy the next day.”

This compilation has been meticulously curated by Dino Malito (Serum, Captain Black Heart) to help the listener truly disconnect from the daily stress most people experience. I have personally used this selection of songs to unwind, I’ve been lucky enough to have an advance copy that has come in very handy over the past few months and highly recommend it. Featuring Kitaro, Dino Malito and a selection of other ethereal artists and their compositions. Please navigate below to learn more. Hope your new year is off to a good start! xxx

Hey friends near…and far. I can’t believe another year is soon to be behind us. So, before that happens I wanted to make sure I squeezed in a few more posts over here at MUSIC-SURVIVAL-GUIDE. It’s been a really cool year for M-S-G and I’ve really enjoyed every part of it. A cool thing that seems to be happening for us is actual word of mouth…remember that? I LOVE IT, and that’s exactly how I came across Dramaglider. Neil Klemz, guitarist for this Chicago based band had contacted me via email as he had heard about MUSIC-SURVIVAL-GUIDE from Fred in AAA Battery which I did a feature on some months back. I freakin’ love getting emails from bands and artists who are interested in being a part of this project. Neil was pretty excited when he reached out and wanted to talk about his bands first record they were about to release. He was nice enough to send me some sounds that were pretty neat so I figured I’d give these cats a bump and share them with you. That’s the best part about music, sharing it with each other! It’s always been a joy for me. And be it that we are in the Season of sharing, here ya go…some music for ya. Check out Dramaglider. Dig in and enjoy. Support indie artists!

Dino Malito

Throughout my many adventures of writing and music I have been lucky enough to stumble across treasures. Some I’ve had to dig for and some have been presented to me plainly and simply, as was this new EP from Dino Malito. Quite honestly, there is really nothing plain about it, more close to extraordinary. Getting to know Dino through his music has been a really nice experience for me. First with his band Serum from the late 90’s-early 2000’s to his current band Captain Black Heart and now with this solo offering. Dino and I had only come into contact with each other maybe about a year ago mainly because of Music-Survival-Guide. It’s just one of the cool perks I get from doing this wonderful thing.

On May 4th Dino will release his first solo EP through Domo Music Group. For a debut it is somewhat unusual as it is a collection of covers from Japanese New Age artist Kitaro. Nothing short of a sensation himself (Kitaro) being a Grammy and Golden-Globe winner for his compositions which use a variety of synthesizers and sounds. But for Malito, on this release, he has stripped down the walls and brought something peaceful, something of the earth and soil. Being a master of many a stringed thing he presents this tribute in such a reserved tasteful manner, bordering on perfectionist but pulling back ever so slightly before the true soul of the work becomes compromised or mechanical. This is a recording that makes you want to leave the chaos behind…of the world…of a hectic life. Music in so many ways heals. It’s something we can all relate to universally and that is truly beautiful. And there is plenty of beauty to be found in this small 5 track EP. What Dino set out to accomplish reminds me of a bit of my appreciation for John Wesley Harding who did something similar with his release, Trad Arr Jones, which was a tribute to Nic Jones, a London born folk singer. Harding compiled covers of Jones’ whimsical craft and presented them in such an irresistible way that I had to immediately hook myself on either of their works. And here, with Malito’s new EP, he may just do the same for anyone of us as this recording presents something truly magical. He even has the approval of Kitaro himself, “I was pleasantly surprised by these warm interpretations of my music…” So discover this with me as I peel back more layers of this wonderful release which is clearly from the heart of a truly talented individual. Thank you for sharing this with me…with us, Dino.

Soda - Therapy Sessions (An Experiment In Sound and Word) COVER FINAL

Once in a while I’ll drop a shameless self promotion post here at MUSIC-SURVIVAL-GUIDE. This, is one of them. I just wanted to announce that my new release, Therapy Sessions:An Experiment In Sound and Word will be released this Friday, October 13th. It is not a traditional “record” by any stretch. It is somewhat stream on consciousness, storytelling, spoken work and a few songs. I’ve been explaining to people that, if an abstract painting had a voice, this might be it. I’m pretty excited about it and sharing it with all of you. It will be available physically only in a limited edition bundle in which the CD version will come with 4 other DIY components. ONLY 20, and the only way you can get it will be with the bundle. Other than that it will be available digitally through all the major sites.

Friday the 13th…seek Therapy.
