Hey everybody. Very excited to announce that we have “graduated” from our WordPress domain to our own official website  www.musicsurvivalguide.org

M-S-G

A lot of exciting stuff has been happening for M-S-G! It has grown quite a bit since the beginning of the year as we have expanded it too also be a Podcast.

M-S-G PODCAST ON YOUTUBE

Shout-out to my partner, NOX CULT drummer, Monkey. We’ve been having a blast. Thanks to all for following, listening, sharing…it means everything. So, stick around as we continue the adventures. And please reach out if you would like to get on the Show, get your album reviewed, do an interview…

AND IN OTHER NEWS…

I have also been focusing a lot on my SODA’S CRAFTY CHAOS project in which I make candles, light switch covers, prints…etc. I wanted to announce that I have released my first run of enamel pins! I really wanted it to be very special SO…it is an ode, a bit of a tribute, to my favorite band, JELLYFISH. I figured, what better way to start this endeavor than to bring something awesome like this to the still existing Jellyfish community. I will be bringing more pins to life down the line but for now, head over to my store and grab your set, limited to ONLY 30 SETS!

Get the pins here!

This is version 2.0 of our show from 2 weeks ago. We had some issues with including the songs in the original cast and the video was taken down a few times. So…we finally got around to making a version that includes none of the music unfortunately. We wanted to make sure we still got this episode up as it was important to us, although it is not as it originally should have been heard we are still very happy with the content. So, here we are giving this episode a second life. Enjoy. Rest in peace, Prince.

MUSIC-SURVIVAL-GUIDE Episode 8
So psyched to share this Episode with you guys! I had the honor and pleasure of spending some time with Vinnie Dombrowski of Sponge last week before their gig at BlackThorn51 in Queens New York. We talked a bit about past and present Sponge, side projects, memories and more. These Detroit rockers are one of the best rock bands in the biz and proved it once again at the show later that evening. Vin gives no signs of stopping the amazing work he has been doing for the past 25 plus years. Give this a listen and share it along. Long live Sponge! Thanks Vin.

Roger and Soda somewhere in space
This is the interview that started it all! Almost two years ago I wanted to branch out on the blog. I did a phone interview with one of my musical heroes, Roger Joseph Manning Jr., from my favorite band, Jellyfish. This was in depth and absolutely incredible. We thought this was too good to not make it a part of the formal Podcast, thusly we are bringing it back and calling it Episode Zero. It’s not perfect sound quality as it was done on the phone straight forward but it is still so badass. Enjoy and share!

Soda - Therapy Sessions (An Experiment In Sound and Word) COVER FINAL

Once in a while I’ll drop a shameless self promotion post here at MUSIC-SURVIVAL-GUIDE. This, is one of them. I just wanted to announce that my new release, Therapy Sessions:An Experiment In Sound and Word will be released this Friday, October 13th. It is not a traditional “record” by any stretch. It is somewhat stream on consciousness, storytelling, spoken work and a few songs. I’ve been explaining to people that, if an abstract painting had a voice, this might be it. I’m pretty excited about it and sharing it with all of you. It will be available physically only in a limited edition bundle in which the CD version will come with 4 other DIY components. ONLY 20, and the only way you can get it will be with the bundle. Other than that it will be available digitally through all the major sites.

Friday the 13th…seek Therapy.

Preorders are available now over at my website. Direct link is below:

SO…back in April of 2015 I made a post here about Favorite Albums, saying that I had been working on compiling a list of mine as a fun exercise to pinpoint a bunch of records that really made me, changed me, supported me, etc etc. Then again in September of 2015 I posted a follow up about not forgetting the project I gave myself that I wanted to share with whomever was interested. And now, fast forward to the present, almost two years later (which is horrifying). I have finally finished said list. It wasn’t necessarily two years in the making or anything like that, but, every time I opened the document with this sprawling list of wonderful records I always redefined it, added to it, subtracted, making subsections until finally this week I said, if not for anyone else I want to finish this crazy little project for myself for multiple reasons. One being because I always finish what I start and two, because I’m a mega music geek. I began this idea saying I was going to do a Top 25, then a Top 50 but came to the conclusion as I sat down in front of a wall of music that it’d be impossible for me, so, I decided to go for a Top 100, and even that was hard (you’ll even see an “honorable mention” section here because 100 just wasn’t enough :::wipes sweat from brow:::). On this list you’ll find: Pop, Metal, Singer/Songwriter, New Wave, Alternative, Rock and ALMOST everything in between. These selections come with a boat load of memories and inspiration for me, it’s not just because I love these records but they also hold little pieces of the puzzle that form my life. I’m happy to have them and thankful to all of these people involved in sharing what they do, because in the end that’s what it’s all about. So here, I share this list with you. Hope you have fun with it. Could this change by next month? Hahaha, it sure can so let me hit that publish button cause then I can’t turn back. If you don’t know these records, find and seek! Rock on!
