Last Friday I decided to do somewhat of a reissue of my old band, Violet Daydream’s album, Meow as a Bandcamp exclusive digital only release. I can absolutely go on and on about this record because it is certainly one that changed my life. So, why an EDITED reissue of all things? Well, for a number of reasons. First, as a music nerd, I personally love when bands do this kinda stuff. If I dig a band I’ll take any and every version of whatever I can get. It’s just part of the universe that’s created. Second, this version of the album was never commercially available ever before. This features the clean edits of “Taste” and “Sucker” and a radio edit of “A Certain Chemical” with a bonus track remix of “Taste” by our bass player. It cuts out all of the untitled/noise tracks that were sprinkled throughout the original release. And, if you want to get into the very fine details I even shortened the title of “Through A Forest, Up a Hill, Into a Dark Room” to just, “Through A Forest…” The whole point of an edited version initially was to better promote the album to radio and stores due to some of the language and some song lengths. Finally, the color of the cover was altered and includes “Edited Version” stamped across the front. Ultimately it makes the record, dare I say, more commercially viable. To me this. is. not. a. compromise. But rather a step up in artists development and maturity for myself personally. It also had a bit of a remaster by Tyler Green at Tyler Green Sound Services and has never sounded so loud, which is great. I do have more plans for VD music in the future which would be the absolute final offering I could muster up from this era. And third, well, I just wanted to! The band is long gone and we left behind two records (I did try for a reunion a time or two). Our shows were really noisy, raw and gritty and fairly dangerous. It was a great time. There are many stories that can be told about this time period in my music making and creating history. Many memories and stories. Some I’m quite sure you wouldn’t believe. Many people said we were just “too early”, in fact, that was probably said the most out of anything. We were just a trio of weird kids from Long Island that shook my house with our noise on a weekly basis (my Ma was a saint) and in the end learned a hard and shocking lesson about the music “industry” which in turn spelled the end of the band. But these are all stories for another time.

P.S.- After VD: I haven’t stopped creating, it’s been quite an adventure. Mike went on to play with me in ABCSoda and His Mighty Robot, he’s quite a wonderful musician. He now plays in Graces Of Chaos and Blockhead. The drummer, Leo, I don’t know much about.

Indie

Earlier this week I posted on social media that I was looking for any and all music related indie artists of any kind to share with me the best place on the net to show off their work and I would compile a list here that we could share with each other and beyond. I guess it was a bit of a social experiment? Anyways, I had hoped for more participation. Whatever the case may be, below is a list of rad artists doing their own thing. Whether they at some point may have been on a major label, toured the world, or just make records right out of their bedrooms, it’s a list of honest and good folks doing it for all the right reasons. So please, check them out, share, and support. Especially in a time like now where we are all struggling and being faced with finding different ways to support ourselves and still put positive vibes into the universe. MUSIC-SURVIVAL-GUIDE is all of us. Stay safe out there. xxx

We are less than 2 weeks out from this VERY special show (Sun. May 19th at Village Pub Long Island) We cannot wait to give it all to Giovanni Silver Fox this night. This show is so important to me for a number of reasons. NOX CULT has reunited to play for all of you one more time. I really hope to see so many of you and when I do I will never forget it.

This is a very important and a special announcement for me. My last band, NOX CULT is back after 3 years. There is so much to say and do, but the most important is the benefit show we are scheduled for in May. See the info below. THIS is the reason why we have returned. It means a lot to us…so please…read, share, spread the word. EVERYTHING. And, thank you!

Brothers and Sisters of the NOX, the CULT has been resurrected! Yes, NOX CULT is back together. One more time. We have been brought back for a benefit show to honor and empower our Cult Member, Friend, Brother and Father, Gio “Silver Fox” as he fights for his health. This is an official announcement about the engagement which will take place on May 19th. The line-up is absolutely incredible. This is our first time performing together in over 3 years and my return to the stage in 2 and a half! This will be a night to remember. Ink the date and get to this. Let’s shake the world. Wherever you are make your plans now and get there early. We want to see ALL. OF. YOU. @noxcult

NOX 2019 BENEFIT

Happy New Year! 2019…holey moley! This is our first episode for the new year. I had the idea to do a bit of a “year in review” type episode for 2018. I wanted to acknowledge the fact that we had now been doing the Podcast for a year and just give a knod to all the great artists I interviewed or covered in some fashion. I figured this would be a great way to tie up one year and start another. So, as we brainstorm what is next please give this a listen and hear a cool and fun little wrap up of what I thought was a really great year for M-S-G. More guests on the way. Peace and love! And, a big thanks to my Monkey man 😉

SO! It has been a minute since I dropped a post over here on M-S-G…That doesn’t mean it’s not going strong, all it means is that life happens and busy takes hold. In this case, for me, the busy has been amazing. So, to kick off the next few weeks of some upcoming great content I’ll give you a quick recap about how lucky and grateful I am AND how much hard work and determination pays off.

First, I’d like to mention that a little over a month ago we rolled out: WWW.MUSICSURVIVALGUIDE.ORG

The last month has been a wonderful blur. My SODA’S CRAFTY CHAOS project has been going great, I even got to work with a legend last month at Cradle Con, Mr. Larry Kenney (the voice of Lion-O and many other iconic characters!)

So yea, that was amazing. I also just sent out a candle that will hopefully be on a TV Show (fingers crossed).

Then, just 2 weeks ago I had the incredible honor of working merch for Jason Bieler of Saigon Kick as he played a rare solo gig in NYC. That was super badass, Jason was amazing and gave me space to do my job. Great stories and amazing stripped down versions of some of my most favorite SK songs.

Really incredible.

AND, (yes, there is more!) Just last week Roger Joseph Manning Jr. from my all time fave band, Jellyfish, invited me out to the Beck show at MSG as he and Jason Falkner (also former Jellyfish) are in his band. What a killer show, and to get to see more of my inspirations do their thing together was truly awesome. The “aftershow” was especially rad as I was able to present Roger with my limited edition enamel Jellyfish pin set that I made about 2 months ago.

I’ve been enjoying the shit out of these amazing experiences and take none of it for granted. How could I complain? (If only I were rich!) BUT, I get to do all this great stuff while I also work with disabled kids during the day to make ends meet. Although I have not actively been playing music like I used to (currently) BUT, HOWEVER have just had two of my older songs from a previous project, One Last November, placed in new indie film, Happiness Adjacent – I am still neck deep in it, just different avenues. Even today I got offered free tix to The Cult, Bush & STP at Jones Beach (Thanks to Mike from Pudding Time). Before I sign off for now I was also able to fit in two new amazing episodes of the M-S-G Podcast that will be coming over the next 2 weeks. One, with D.A. from Shinobi Ninja and the awesome experimental Poet, Billy Lamont! <— ( who has a new rad book out!)

Soda - Therapy Sessions (An Experiment In Sound and Word) COVER FINAL

Once in a while I’ll drop a shameless self promotion post here at MUSIC-SURVIVAL-GUIDE. This, is one of them. I just wanted to announce that my new release, Therapy Sessions:An Experiment In Sound and Word will be released this Friday, October 13th. It is not a traditional “record” by any stretch. It is somewhat stream on consciousness, storytelling, spoken work and a few songs. I’ve been explaining to people that, if an abstract painting had a voice, this might be it. I’m pretty excited about it and sharing it with all of you. It will be available physically only in a limited edition bundle in which the CD version will come with 4 other DIY components. ONLY 20, and the only way you can get it will be with the bundle. Other than that it will be available digitally through all the major sites.

Friday the 13th…seek Therapy.
